New Book ORBIT Will be released September 1, 2023

I am delighted to announce that I have a new book of poetry that will be released on the 1st September 2023. This book was written over a period of 4 years, during which time our world changed A LOT! For long periods of time I found it almost impossible to write anything, but every now and then I would get a week or a day where I felt I had something to say. And eventually ORBIT appeared!

It’s really a miracle it happened at all, but now it is almost here, I couldn’t be more proud of it. I still haven’t fully regained my inspiration to write. I thought for a good chuck of the last couple of years that I might not have anything left to say. And maybe this is all I have left to say. Maybe this is the last book, I don’t know. But regardless of whether it is or isn’t, I am happy this book is here for one more go round.

I hope you enjoy this visual representation of the opening poem in the book.

ORBIT will be released on September 1st 2023 in Hardback, Paperback and Kindle Editions.

Six Years Ago Today…

I have just submitted the final manuscript for Blue In Green. In the next couple of days the book will “go live” on Amazon all over the world and be available for purchase. It seems fitting that this should happen today, as today marks the sixth anniversary I wrote the lines you see in the photo. They were the first lines I wrote for Blue In Green and are taken from a poem called Morning Reverie. This has been such an amazing book to work on and I have many people to thank for getting it to where it is today. My father-in-law, Michael T Carr, for lending his editing skills to the book; my wonderful talented friend, Catherine Pendegrass for the incredible artwork that appears in the book, and of course my wife, Heather Mellor, who has supported this project from the very beginning and helped me polish the final draft in these last few weeks.

Now we wait, but not too much longer. The book will be available in both paperback and e-book. I am so excited to share it with you all!

Drawing Outside of the Lines: Poems 2007-2017 delay

I am sorry to announce that my selected poems, Drawing Outside of the Lines: Poems 2007-2017 release will be delayed.

The book was due to be released on 1st July 2017, but due to a hold up at the printers with my final proof copies, I have no choice but to delay the release of the book until a later date.

I don’t like having to alter the plans for a book release after I have announced it, but sometimes circumstances are out of my control, and I must, for the integrity of the book, take the extra time needed to ready it for release.

I will update you on the new release date in the next week or so.

Thank you for your patience.

Poetry Profiles: Introduction

To celebrate the soon to be published, Drawing Outside of the Lines: Poems 2007-2017 on 1st July 2017, I wanted to share with you all a few stories of some of the poems in the collection.

The first story, or poetry profile is for the poem, Whitby from my debut collection, Still Growing. It will be published tomorrow here. The idea is to share some background for some of the poems and collections I have written over the last 10 years.
I hope they can provide some insight into my process of writing, some information that you will find interesting and provide you with a gateway into the my world of words.

Drawing Outside of the Lines: Poems 2007 – 2017 to be released on 1st July 2017

It is a great pleasure to announce that Drawing Outside the Lines: Poems 2007 – 2017 will be released on 1st July 2017. The book contains a personally hand picked selection of my poems taken from the 7 books I have published throughout my ten years of independent publishing. Some poems are taken from books that are no longer in print, and as a bonus, there is a generous selection of unpublished poems for your perusal.
The gorgeous cover art is once again provided by my beautiful and talented wife, Heather Mellor.
I am very proud to have reached this milestone in my writing career, but I could not have made it without the generous support of every single person who bought a book or came to see a reading along the way. I thank you for your continued support and encouragement. My hope for all of you who have read my books and poems that this book can be a broad overview of my writing so far, and for anyone who is less familiar with my writings, it can be a nice introduction. I will have more updates in the coming weeks. Thank you for stopping by, and have a great Friday! Phil x

One week to go…

Only one week until Other Silent Days will be available to order and I cannot wait for you all the read it. Putting this book together has been a real labour of love for me and it is difficult for me to describe the journey I have been on to create it.
The book captures over 4 years of my writing and some dramatic shifts in my life.

It has many themes, it would be hard to pin down just one. My hope is that you will read it and draw your own conclusions.
The poems in this book were almost discarded, several times, as I fell in and out of love with them. But they are here now, some of them fully formed pieces, others almost thought dreams. Nevertheless, there is an unbreakable link between them all, and I am proud that the book is finally finished and I can hand it over to you.
As always I want to thank you all for the support and encouragement. It means everything to be able to share these poems with you. I hope they can warm your heart and touch your soul. They are yours now.
Much love,
Phil
